Sheffield’s BAMER Pride

SAYiT’s BAMER Pride has been planned and delivered by a group of LGBT+ BAMER volunteers and young people at SAYiT. It was created after discussions with people representing various segments of the BAMER community. 2019 will be our second year running an event celebrating BAMER LGBT+ people and is held to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Stonewall Riots which was led by BAMER LGBT+ people.

Our BAMER Pride is not intended to segregate, but instead highlight the extra pressures that come from being LGBT+ and a member of the BAMER community at the same time.

Many BAMER LGBT+ people experience discrimination and negative attitudes from the LGBT+ community and from their own ethnic communities due to cultural beliefs/attitudes and potentially anti LGBT+ laws within the countries of their own ethnic makeup.
