The LGBT+ Hub is a forum for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and people of other minority sexual orientations and/or gender identities under the LGBT+ umbrella and their allies.
The Hub works to raise issues specific to LGBT+ communities and promote fairness and inclusion and challenge inequalities.
The LGBT+ Hub is a trans inclusive space and welcomes people of all genders. We have a zero tolerance approach to discrimination, victimisation or harassment on the basis of a person’s gender identity.
Our current priorities are:
- Hate crime
- Health and wellbeing (including mental health)
- Visibility and representation
We also collaborate to mark a number of awareness days and events throughout the year including:
- February: LGBT History Month
- 17 May: International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
- 20 November: Transgender Day of Remembrance
- 1 December: World AIDS Day

I believe my range of experience, passion and the networks I have established working with LGBT+ communities can bring a lot to the role, ensuring that we not only meet current equality requirements, but as a network and a city, can set the standard for best practice for LGBT+ equality, diversity and inclusion for others to aim for.

Candidate Statement
Since moving to our great city four years ago I have been active in championing and supporting LGBTQ+ equality, individuals and organisations to help ensure Sheffield continues to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive city for all. In the last four years I have had the opportunity to attend and report to the LGBT+ Hub on behalf of many organisations covering a variety of topics and truly understand the importance and benefits the LGBT+ Hub and Equality Hub Network bring to individuals, organisations and the city as a whole.
Some of my previous LGBTQ+ related roles include:
- LGBT+ Students Representative, Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union
- Chair, LGBT+ Steering Committee (National Union of Students)
- Board Member, South Yorkshire LGBT+ Awards
- Public Engagement Executive, Pride Sheffield
- Communications, Marketing and Safeguarding Manager, Pride Sheffield
- Vice Chair, Pride Sheffield
And proud recipient of the South Yorkshire LGBT+ Rising Star 2017 Award for the numerous organisations and projects I have been involved with across the region.
Currently I volunteer as a Community Champion with Sexual Health Sheffield (Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and will be joining Sheena Amos Youth Trust as a volunteer soon.
I believe that with the experience and involvement I have with the network, my previous and current roles as well as the strong relationships I have with LGBTQ+ individuals, community leaders, groups and organisations across the region I can understand, empathise and support the LGBT+ Hub and Equality Hub Network meet their full potential and engagement.
I look forward to taking on these new roles if elected to support and facilitate the LGBT+ Hub, LGBT+ Hub Chair and members as well as represent the LGBT+ Hub, its interests and the interests of its members to the Equality Hub Network.
- LGBT+ Hub Representative: Kath Housley
Candidate Statement
I have been Chair of LGBT Sheffield for 6 years, and before that I was Chair of Sheffield Pride. I have been the Vice Chair and/or a Hub Rep for the LGBT+ Hub since it was first formed. I have attended many meetings including the Equality Hub Network Board and all the other Hubs meetings and cross Hub events always with the intention of raising LGBT+ issues within their projects.
Since starting as a Hub Rep I have also been invited to join other committees and groups to give the LGBT perspective on things such as the Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel, the NHS Equality Engagement Group, South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) Core Partnership, South Yorkshire Police Independent Advisory Group.
In short, I am committed to carry on the work to raise awareness and visibility of Sheffield’s LGBT community through the work of the Hubs and LGBT Sheffield. Something that is long overdue.
